Materials
Yarn: Angora from Plymouth, 1 each of 2 colors (color A & B)
Needles: DPN’s size US 4
Gauge: 6 stitches per inch
Instructions
Cast on 28 stitches using color B. Divide onto 3 DPN’s, join to knit in the round, place marker.
Cuff
Continuing with color B, Purl 4 rounds. Knit 3 rounds.
Change to color A. Knit 1 round, Purl 4 rounds, Knit 3 rounds.
Change to color B. Knit 1 round, purl 4 rounds.
Change to Color A. Knit 2 rounds.
Set Up for Heel Flap
Knit 7 stitches. TURN. Slip 1, purl 13 stitches. Rearrange needles so the last 14 stitches worked are on one needle, and the other 14 stitches are divided onto the other two needles (7 stitches each). Continue working heel flap just on the 14 stitch needle.
Heel Flap
Round 1: Slip 1, knit 13. Turn.
Round 2: Slip 1, purl 13. Turn.
Repeat these two rounds until heel flap measures about 1 inch, ending with a purl row
Turn Heel
Round 1: K9, k2tog, k1, turn.
Round 2: Slip 1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn.
Round 3: Slip 1, k6, k2tog, k1, turn.
Round 4: Slip 1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn.
Round 5: slip 1, k8, k2tog, turn.
Round 6: slip 1, p7, p2tog, turn.
Gusset Set Up
- Still using the same needle (we’ll call it needle #1), pick up one stitch in each slipped stitch along the side of the heel flap (the stitches that look like “V”s).
- Using an empty needle (this is needle #2), knit across the next two needles – 14 stitches total.
- Using an empty needle (we’ll call it needle #3), pick up one stitch in each slipped stitch along the side of the heel flap. Also knit 4 of the stitches from the heel flap onto this needle.
Shape Foot
Round 1: Needle #1: knit to 3 stitches from end of needle, k2tog, k1. Needle #2: Knit all stitches. Needle #3: k1, ssk, knit to end.
Round 2: Knit
Repeat these two rounds until you are down to 28 stitches total: Needle #1 = 7 stitches, Needle #2 = 14 stitches, Needle #3 = 7 stitches.
Knit 10 rounds.
Toe
Change to color B.
Round 1: Needle #1: knit to 3 stitches from end of needle, k2tog, k1. Needle #2: k1, ssk,, knit to 3 stitches from end of needle, k2tog, k1. Needle #3: K1, ssk, knit to end of needle.
Round 2: Knit
Repeat these two rounds until there are 12 stitches remaining. Slip the stitches on the bottom of the foot onto one needle, and graft them together using the kitchener stitch.
Definitions
K2tog: knit two stitches together as one
P2tog: Purl two stitches together as one
SSK: slip two stitches, one at a time, from the left needle to the right needle. Put the left needle into these two slipped stitches in front of the right needle, and knit the two together.
