News from Double Ewe

August 20, 2009

It feels like a hundred years since my last newsletter. I FINALLY finished putting together our class schedule for September & October, and we’ve got a variety of classes for a variety of skill levels...from never-knit-a-stitch-before to double knitting to design-your-own projects. And there’s socks, a neck scarf, a cool blanket, a cabled vest, and more, as well as our ongoing Knitter’s Choice & Knit Along with Ann classes. Oh, AND we have Crochet 101, as well! So, if you want to branch out with your fiber art skills, take a look at that! Besides being a lot of fun, knowing how to crochet can be really useful in your knitting.

One more very important note: We will be closed Saturday, September 5th for the holiday weekend. This summer really got away from us, and Francis & I are going to do something. Not sure what yet but something. I hope you understand. ;-)

New Stuff

Lanaloft Bulky
This is a brand new yarn from Brown Sheep. 100% wool singles in gorgeous colors in great big, generous 200 gram skeins. It knits up to about 3 stitches per inch on a size 10 ½ needle, so it’d be great for some nearly-instant gratification projects.

Key West Karibbean Kotton Kollection from The Sassy Skein
OK, if you know me very well at all, you know that misspelling words, drives me crazy. So, you have to imagine how cute this stuff is for it to make me overlook all the K’s in its name. Bright, colorfast mercerized worsted weight cotton with uber-cute patterns that even include the buttons. AND each pattern includes a CD with “tips & techniques” for all knitting levels. If you like knitting for kids, you really have to check it out. Knits up at about 4 ½ stitches per inch.

Mochi Plus from Crystal Palace Yarns
If you like Mini Mochi, you’ll love Mochi Plus. Worsted weight, super soft, superwash, self-striping singles in vibrant colors. This one’s also a brand new yarn. There are 8 colors total, and I have 5 of them so far. Emily is making me a pair of fingerless mittens out of this for my cold basement office – I can’t wait. Knits up at about 5 stitches per inch.
