Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

Holiday Hours

First, a little explanation: Running a yarn shop is a lot of fun. And very rewarding. And a lot of work. And Francis’ (my other half) work has been even crazier than mine for the last month or so. And we’re both kind of tired. So. We’ve decided to take a little break between Christmas & New Years to rest, refresh ourselves, and spend some time with our families. I hope you understand, especially if you’re lucky enough to get a Double Ewe gift certificate for Christmas – sorry, but you’re going to have to wait a little bit to spend it. So here’s the scoop:

Thursday, Christmas Eve: 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.
Then we’re going to be closed through New Year’s Eve.
Reopening Friday, January 1st
: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (Yes, I’m that boring…no need for me to sleep in on New Year’s Day :)

If you’re not working on New Year’s Day, come join us for some knit & crochet fun! We start at 1;30 or so.

January – February Classes

Our class schedule for January & February is finally ready! We’ve got some fun new classes to offer as well as some old favorites. Please visit our website for the details and pictures, but the lineup includes:

  • Swirl Shawl
  • Knitting 101
  • Cardigans
  • Tapestry Crochet
  • Hats That Fit*
  • Fixing Mistakes*
  • Entrelac
  • Mitered Squares*
  • Crochet Workshop
  • Finishing Techniques*
  • Tunisian Crochet
  • A Lovely Cowl
  • Socks

*I often get asked during Knitting 101 classes, what comes after that class. The classes I’ve marked with an asterisk would be good “Next Step” classes. But they’re not JUST for beginners.

New Stuff

Every month when I get ready to write the newsletter, I turn to my accounting program to see what new yarns I’ve bought over the past month. Now, granted, we recently moved and I have more space that I can fill, but this is getting a little bit crazy. But but but…I love buying yarn as much as the rest of you do, and my self-control seems to be on the fritz lately. Again, I’ll TRY to keep it brief, but here’s what we’ve got since I last wrote:

  • Aran & Aran Marl from Crystal Palace– I have to especially point this one out. This is 100% wool in lots of nice of colors at a very good price. You really need to check it out while it lasts – you might want to stock up.
  • Mountain Meadow Wool – Undyed, minimally processed wool in four weights grown & spun in Wyoming. Creamy, wooly goodness.
  • Galway from Plymouth - Nice, basic 100% wool in lots of colors
  • Velvet Wool – from Nashua Handknits. You know how sometimes you see a yarn and you don’t buy it, but it haunts you, and you can’t stop thinking about it until you buy it? That’s what happened to me with Velvet Wool. 100% wool, spun in a way that it has a velvety appearance that’s hard to explain in words. Light & lofty with subtle shading.

  • Frog Tree Alpaca Sport - Silky alpaca with rich colors in a sport weight. Very pretty.

  • Susan from Schaeffer – handpainted mercerized cotton in a DK weight from the well-known Schaeffer Yarns with colorways named after famous women. Very lovely.
  • Fantasy Naturale – I finally brought in this very popular, worsted weight mercerized cotton from Plymouth. Variegated.

Sock Yarn

  • Best Foot Forward – a new self-patterning sock yarn from Nashua Handknits with gorgeous colorways designed by Kristie Nichols. Very nicely priced, too.

Babies & Kids

  • Cotton Kisses and
  • Bear Hugs – both Cotton Kisses and Bear Hugs are kind of like “baby sweater kits”. It’s a big ball of yarn, and tucked inside it is a pattern AND cute buttons! All you need to add is the needles and time.
  • Dreambaby DK – very soft, easy care yarn for babies & kids.

  • Jordanna Paige Knitting Bags – roomy, stylish, and maximized for knitting. Just what you need for Christmas!

And that’s it for now. May you all have a blessed holiday season.
