A Few Random Notes

The State Fair is running right now, Labor Day is next weekend, and school starts for most kids next week. Do you know what that means? The official start to knitting season! And I’ve been very busy getting ready for it. Since I last wrote you, I’ve stocked the shelves with 18 (yes, eighteen) new yarns, as well as some other goodies. And get this: there’s more to come! How fun is that!?!

I’ll send a second newsletter out later this month to tempt you with our new yarns, but this week’s newsletter, is going to focus on what’s going on at the shop, activity-wise, and there’s a lot: our summer hours are ending, we’re having a book signing in September, another Friday night potluck is coming up, and our classes are gearing up again. Lots of stuff! Read on, get out your calendar, and make some plans!

One more remimnder:  we're on Facebook!

Book Signing at Double Ewe!

Fiber Arts Almanac

Saturday, September 18th from 11:00 – 2:00
Come meet Jenny Wilder, author of the recently published Fiber Art Almanac. This weekly planner will help you stay organized, and it’s compact enough to slip into your project bag. Each week features a new story and sparkling images that will draw you into the world of fiber art. So many of us use electronic devices to plan our lives these days, I had another idea: why not use the Almanac to document your projects? What a fun way to look back on a year of your own fiber pursuits. You can read more about the Almanac at the author’s blog: http://02e134b.netsolhost.com/Blog/?p=84.

Friday Night with Ewe Potluck

(also known as “Once-A-Month Friday Night Get Together, But I’m Not Sure What To Call It“
Once a month, we host a sort of “hang out, knit, talk, crochet, eat, laugh” night at Double Ewe. If we don’t fit in the back room, I’d like us shake it up a bit and bust out of the confines of room and sit throughout the shop, sort of like we did on Knit in Public Day (when it rained). And to make it easier on myself, a friend of mine suggested making it a potluck. August was our first time doing this, and it was a lot of fun! The scoop:
Date: September 17th (every 3rd Friday each month, so in October we’ll meet on the 15th)
Time: 6:30 – 10:00
What to bring: Your project, unless you want to start something new…I know a lady with some yarn for sale… ;)
Potluck: You can bring a snack to share if you’d like, but don’t feel obligated. If you’re going to bring something, keep in mind we may not be sitting at a table and we will be handling fibers, so non-messy finger foods would be best. (So, even though they’re yummy, barbecued chicken wings might not be the best idea.) As always, coffee, tea and water will be available.
Chairs: I really have no idea how many people to expect, but if you have an easy-to-transport chair, you may want to bring it. Me? I’m planning on bringing my sling-type chair that has cup-holders in the arms. Comfy & convenient.

Charitable Knitters

This group started out as The Mother Bear Project, which is a great charity. We’ve decided to branch out to other charitable knitting projects, such as The Snuggles Project. You can read about both of these projects at their websites: http://www.snugglesproject.org/ and www.motherbearproject.org. If you have a charity you’d like to share with us, come knit with us! No registration required – just show up.
When: The first and third Tuesdays each month, from 2:00 – 4:00.
