Faux Isle Hat

Materials

Yarn: 50 grams or approximately 109 yards self-striping worsted weight yarn such as Mochi Plus, Boku, or Poems. Plus about 25 grams contrasting solid worsted weight yarn.
Needles: 16" circulars and DPN's size US 6

Gauge: 4.5 sts/inch

Instructions

Using MC, CO 88 sts onto circular needle. Being careful not to twist, join to knit in the round, place marker.

Ribbing: *K2, P2 repeat from * around. Continue ribbing for 9 rounds. On the last ribbing round, inc 8 sts evenly. (96 sts)

Change to stockinette stitch (knit every round from here on). Knit 1 round. 

Work the chart below for 25 rows.

After completing the chart, using MC k2tog once, then knit to end of round. Break CC & continue with MC only.

Decrease for top of hat as follows, changing to DPN’s when necessary:

  • *k3, k2tog Repeat from * to end of round
  • Knit two rounds
  • *k2, k2tog Repeat from * to end of round
  • Knit two rounds
  • *k1, k2tog Repeat from * to end of round
  • Knit two rounds
  • *K2tog Repeat from * to end of round
  • Knit one round

Break MC leaving 8” tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and fasten off tightly to close top. Weave in ends.
