Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Worsted - 1 skein and Kid Merino from Crystal Palace Yarns - 1 ball
Needles: 16" curculars and DPN's Size US 6
Gauge: 5 st/inch in Garter Rib with both yarns held together;
5.5 st/inch with Malabrigo only in stockinette stitch
Sizes: Large child/small ladies, (Medium Adult, Large Adult)
To fit 18” (21”, 22”) head

Round 6: Knit

Round 11: K4, *pull up loops, k5* Repeat from * around, end with k1.

Instructions
With both yarns held together & using the 16” circular needle, cast on 81 (95, 99) sts using the cable cast on or long tail cast on. Join to knit in the round.
First Ridge
Round 1: Purl
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: Purl
Round 4: *k8(12,10), kfb* Repeat from * around, ending with k 0 (4, 0).
Cut the Kid Merino, leaving a 6” tail to weave in later. Continuing with Malabrigo only, knit one round. 90 (102,108) stitches.
Quilted Diamonds Band
Work rows 1 – 12 of diamond pattern twice.
Decrease round: *k 8(12, 10), k2tog* Repeat from * around, ending with k 0 (4, 0).
81 (95, 99) sts.
Second Ridge
Join Kid Merino again, and continuing with both yarns held together.
Round 1: Purl
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: Purl
Round 4: Knit
Top of hat
Work in Garter Rib pattern until piece measures 6.75 (7, 7.25) inches from casts on, ending with row one.
Decrease rounds
Round 1: *k2, k2tog* Repeat from * around
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: Knit
Round 5: *k1, k2tog* Repeat from * around
Round 6: Knit
Round 7: Knit
Round 8: *k2tog* Repeat from * around
Round 9: *k2tog* Repeat from * around
Cut yarn, draw through stitches removing them from needles and cinch top of hat closed.
Weave in ends.

Definitions
wyif: with yarn in front
sl: slip (as to purl)
pull up loops: insert right needle upwards into the two strands below, so they’re now
on the right needle; knit 1, pass loops over the knit stitch and off the needle.
k2tog: knit two together (right leaning decrease)
