Materials

Yarn:  50 grams light worsted or worsted yarn
Needles: US 7

Instructions

Cast on 54 Stitches.

Beginning Ruffle/Eyelet

Row 1 (WS): Purl
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: *K1, k2tog* Repeat * * around (36 sts)
Row 5: Purl
Row 6: K1, *yo, k2tog, k1* around, end k2
Row 7: Purl

Body of Bag

You’ll now begin the cable portion of the bag.

Row 1 (RS): K2, p3, k4, p3, k12, p3, k4, p3, k2
Row 2: P2, k3, p4, k3, p12, k3, p4, k3, p2
Row 3: Repeat row 1
Row 4: Repeat row 2
Row 5: K2, p3, C4F, p3, C6F, C6B, p3, C4B, p3, k2
Row 6: Repeat row 2
Row 7: Repeat row 1
Row 8: Repeat row 2

Repeat the 8 cable pattern rows (above) eight times, then rows 1-2.

Ending Ruffle/Eyelet

Row 1 (RS): K1, *k1, yo, k2tog* Repeat * * around
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: *k2, inc 1* Repeat * *around, ending k2
Row 4: Purl
Row 5: Knit
Row 6: Purl

Bind of loosely.

Finishing

Sew up side seams.

Make a cord for drawstring.  You can either make a 3-stitch I-cord, crochet a cord, or make a twisted cord.  Weave drawstring through the eyelet holes.

CN: Cable Needle

C4F: Slip 2 sts to cn, hold to front, K2, K2 from cn.

C6F: Slip 3 sts to cn, hold to front, K3, K3 from cn.

C4B: Slip 2 sts to cn, hold in back, K2, K2 from cn.

C6B: Slip 3 sts to cn, hold to back, K3, K3 from cn.

Inc: Increase under the horizontal thread between the stitches. To do this, insert the left needle under the horizontal thread from front to back, then knit it through the back loop.
