Skill Builders

Skill Builders are short, free, mini-classes, each focusing on a single skill. Come to just one or come to them all!  Just drop in at the time and date for the skill you want to learn or brush up on – no need to pre-register.  Check the listing for the materials you’ll need to bring, and instructions for the swatches are at the bottom of this page.  If you have any questions, give us a call.

Kitchener Stitch

Time & Date: Saturday June 5th, 2:00 - 2:30
Materials: Two swatches in stockinette stitch; neither swatch should be bound off; tapestry needle.

Picking Up Stitches

Time & Date: Saturday June 26th, 2:00 - 2:30
Materials: Two swatches, one in stockinette, one in garter stitch (knit every row). Both pieces should be bound off.

Mistakes: To Tink & To Rip - Two Ways to "Un-knit"

Time & Date: Saturday July 3rd, 2:00 - 2:30
Materials: One swatch of stockinette. Swatch should be 3” wide and at least 4” long.

Mistakes: Vertical fixes - Fixing a Mistake Without Ripping

Materials: Two swatches, one stockinette, one garter, each 3” wide and at least 4” long.

Turning a Cable

Time & Date: Saturday July 17th, 2:00 - 2:30
Materials: Worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles, cable needle

Cables without a Cable Needle

Time & Date: Saturday July 24th, 2:00 - 2:30
Materials: Worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles; it will be helpful if you have some previous experience with cables.

Simple Seams

Time & Date: Saturday July 31st, 2:00 - 2:30
Materials: Two stockinette swatches, both bound off; tapestry needle

Three Needle Bind Off

Time & Date: Saturday August 7th, 2:00 - 2:30
Materials: Two stockinette swatches, NOT bound off.

Swatch Instructions

All swatches should be knit from worsted weight yarn and should be at least 3” x 3” unless indicated otherwise; I strongly suggest using a light color. Always bring the needles you used to knit them. If you have any questions or aren’t sure what a the skill being taught is, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Garter stitch: Knit all rows

Stockinette stitch:
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Purl
Repeat rows 1 & 2
